Ryan’s 650B light tourer

This bike was collaboration between Ryan and myself. This was the third (!) bike that I’ve built for him. You’d think that this would expedite the process but that is not the case as I found out as custom is custom and this will always make the build take longer. Ryan is a very knowledgeable person in bicycles and industrial design and he was able to provide me with SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD drawings of the frameset and racks. My job was to build it while still maintaining my style and this blue-green beauty is the final product. He had some things he liked about his first two bikes from me that I needed to incorporate into this one like the stainless cable hangers, dynamo front hubs, integrated pump, and the larger front rack. Ryan will be making the bags for these racks that he designed as he is also a very accomplished bag maker. The frame is fillet brazed with some custom stainless rings Ryan provided on the head tube and stem. The fork uses a Jo Routens twin plate style crown similar to the one that I incorporated into the last bike I did. The dropouts are stainless Paragon Machine Works on the front and rear. The dynamo lighting is integrated into the racks with a Schmidt Edelux light in the front and a modified Velo-Lumino fender taillight on the rear rack. The bike is currently set up with some black vintage Mavic components, Simplex downtube shifters, Campagnolo brake levers, Paul brakes, and Brooks C17 saddle. The fenders are Honjo 650B hammered that were painted and striped to match the bike with a white bit on the rear as a hat tip to vintage Raleighs. This is not the last we’ll see of this bike as I hope to have another photo shoot when the bags are complete!
