Victoria’s minty road bike

August 20, 2016

There’s something inherently beautiful about the simplicity of a road bicycle. This is compared to the touring bikes with fenders, lights, and racks that I normally build. Victoria’s 46cm road bike was built from some of the lightest steel tubing available (Columbus, Dedacciai, and True Temper) and unavailable (Super Vitus 980). I was able to […]

Evan’s light touring bike

August 6, 2016

This was the first bike I had finished since the birth of my son, Tully. I was concerned about being able to focus on the bikes while adjusting to the new family life. The fact that my shop is in my backyard and that sending email via the phone is the new norm helped immensely. […]

Jerod’s plum crazy randonneur

May 16, 2016

I don’t have a muscle car background so I was unfamiliar with the 70s Dodge color called Plum Crazy. Colors appear much flashier on car panels than on bike tubes though. So this color combined with the classic Nervex lug shape remind me a lot of Jack Taylor’s early building style with their later “flamboyant” […]

Ryan’s 650B light tourer

March 30, 2016

This bike was collaboration between Ryan and myself. This was the third (!) bike that I’ve built for him. You’d think that this would expedite the process but that is not the case as I found out as custom is custom and this will always make the build take longer. Ryan is a very knowledgeable […]

The tallest randonneur

December 31, 2015

Marc is one of those riders for whom a custom bicycle is the best option. At 67cm, this bike is at the maximum of what I am capable of building in my fixture. I’ve worked with Marc on other projects over the years and he is a pleasure to build for. He came to me […]

Jon’s big tire road bike

December 29, 2015

A funny story about Jon, he went to my website when he heard about me and saw that I was located in Pawtuxet Village which is a small village along Narragansett Bay in Cranston, RI. Rhode Island a small state and this village is even smaller. Come to find out, Jon grew up here. When […]

Graham’s 650B city bike

November 17, 2015

No, you’re not seeing double or triple. Yes, this is another dark green city bike but there are so many differences. It is the sister bike to Huw’s city bike which resides in London. This is for one of his friends, Graham, who lives stateside. The fact that there are two very similar looking bikes […]

Our tandem and trailer

October 29, 2015

My wife, Hilary, and I have been riding a Jack Taylor tandem for the past 5 years. We got it off of Craigslist because it sort of fit us and it was a fun novelty. It turns out that we actually work really well together on a tandem so that got me thinking about building […]

Mark’s 650B randonneur

October 22, 2015

Fall is definitely my busy season for building bikes. Lots of shows and lots of deadlines. Mark was going to be traveling to one of those shows earlier this month so that was my deadline. I had ironed out a lot of the details with him over email so the build went relatively quick. On […]

Bryan’s Rohloff touring bike

October 19, 2015

Sometimes a bike is defined by the components that are on it. The Rohloff Speedhub is one of those components. The bike needs to be designed around it and that’s why a lot of Rohloff rear hubs are on custom frames. There are several different variations on the Rohloff hub and we decided to get […]

I started making these fender reinforcements 3 yea I started making these fender reinforcements 3 years ago when the Honjo ones weren’t available. I thought I made a lot back then but I just ran out! I *think* I made enough this time to last me 5 years or so? It’s just one of the details that I enjoy including on the builds. The mold was made from a section of fender, a box, and a bunch of steel reinforced Cerrobend. That was a fun project in itself! I’ll share that video in my stories. #fenders #sheetmetal #sheetmetalfab #chapmancycles
It’s hard to let bikes go that you’ve had so m It’s hard to let bikes go that you’ve had so many good memories with but this one is going to a good home. I stripped and repainted this one a grayish-green version of its old self. I have a new bike now and so I needed to move this one to a place where it will get loved and ridden which is with a longtime friend in California. Enjoy your “new” bike, Chris! #chapmancycles
Refinished my old bike from green to another graye Refinished my old bike from green to another grayer green before it goes off to its new home. Brakes are cleaned and re-polished for the first time in 3 years. Good as new! I added an old clip of how the brakes work at the end. Enjoy! #weirdbrakewednesday #filletbrazed #chapmancycles
I’m in the middle of a repaint on a 90s Paramoun I’m in the middle of a repaint on a 90s Paramount. The water bottle boss was oddly 64mm too low on the down tube which functionally is mostly fine but visually was unbalanced. I filled the old lower boss and brazed in a new one higher on the tube. Primed and ready for basecoats now. #silverbrazing #chapmancycles

Some more detail shots of Erik’s brick red metallic bike. The paint really comes to life in the sunlight! Again, thanks to Erik and @brad.quartuccio for the photos! #lugs #lugsnotdrugs #chapmancycles
The final bike from this @phillybikeexpo series is The final bike from this @phillybikeexpo series is Erik’s brick red metallic 650b fendered road bike. This one was built around a heavily carved set of Prugnat lugs similar to two other bikes I have shown in Philly in previous years. Erik had this one completely planned out from the start. He provided all the parts which made the final stretch to the Expo go just a little quicker! I wasn’t able to take photos before the Expo because of weather and time constraints but thanks to Erik and @brad.quartuccio for the photos! More detail photos of this one coming up tomorrow. #lugs #lugsnotdrugs #chapmancycles
