Robbie’s 650b Rinko randonneur

March 27, 2024

This bike was a long time coming. Robbie’s Plum Crazy 650b rinko randonneur is ready to roll and it rides like a dream! The test ride is always the best part of the job. I’m really pleased with how this one came together. The hidden taillight wire makes the lower head tube and front rack […]

John’s light touring/randonneur bike

February 21, 2024

This bike miraculously came together in just a couple days after I finished painting it last Thursday (a build like this with racks, fenders, wheelbuilding, dynamo wiring, etc. would normally take me 3 to 4 days). The plan was for John (the new owner) to get dropped off at my shop and ride the bike […]

1972 Motobecane Le Champion 650b conversion

February 21, 2024

Sometimes a bike will cross my path and I won’t even give it a second look. But then other times I see potential in the bike and I just can’t get rid of it. This was one of those bikes. My friend Nina‘s father passed away some years back and he was a racer back […]

Vivek’s 650b Rinko randonneur

February 21, 2024

Vivek’s metallic burgundy and black 650b rinko randonneur is ready to roll! Lots of anodizing and powdercoating of components in this one to get that balance of burgundy, black, and silver. I had the opportunity to test ride it a few miles over the past couple days and the SRAM Force AXS shifting is smooth! […]

Andrew’s Di2 disc road bike

January 7, 2024

Andrew’s 12-speed Di2 disc most-road bike is ready to roll out the door! I would not call it an all-road bike as it is set up, but take those fenders and 32mm tires off and throw on some 38mm knobbies and now we’re talking! Versatility! This one is staying local to me so I hope […]

Jonathan’s 650b commuter

January 7, 2024

Jonathan’s bike is the commuter I would make for myself if I were making myself a commuter. The two-tiered rear rack and handlebar front rack make it perfect for some light touring as well. The Campagnolo Record Ti 10-speed group is just as dreamy as I remember.

All-road touring bike with trailer

January 7, 2024

So I built myself a new bike! It’s in the style of an allroad touring bike but with fenders. Tires are 650×48. Weighs in at 25lbs with racks/lights/fenders. I painted it the same color as our tandem (turf green) so this trailer I built would possibly get some more use. Side note: I finished the […]

Kelly’s light touring bike

December 22, 2023

There are a lot of details on Kelly‘s bike that I would like to share here but the full set pf photos will be on my Flickr page. It was really difficult to capture this blue in the photos. It is vivid but it doesn’t jump out at you. The metallic is just subtle enough […]

Tully’s BMX

December 22, 2023

It was my son’s birthday in February and we got to give him a new bike! This small frame 20” BMX style bike is a size upgrade from his 12”/14” wheeled bike. It’ll take a minute for him to get used to the the wheel size, crank length (135mm), and hand brake. Hope he gets […]

Stephen’s 650b randonneur

December 22, 2023

This 650b touring/randonneur bike is ready to be boxed up and shipped! Finally! This is the last of the bikes from the Philly Bike Expo to leave the shop. After this, it’s back to framebuilding videos! I very rarely do the up-jutting style of threadless stem but when it isn’t a quill, and I need […]

I started making these fender reinforcements 3 yea I started making these fender reinforcements 3 years ago when the Honjo ones weren’t available. I thought I made a lot back then but I just ran out! I *think* I made enough this time to last me 5 years or so? It’s just one of the details that I enjoy including on the builds. The mold was made from a section of fender, a box, and a bunch of steel reinforced Cerrobend. That was a fun project in itself! I’ll share that video in my stories. #fenders #sheetmetal #sheetmetalfab #chapmancycles
It’s hard to let bikes go that you’ve had so m It’s hard to let bikes go that you’ve had so many good memories with but this one is going to a good home. I stripped and repainted this one a grayish-green version of its old self. I have a new bike now and so I needed to move this one to a place where it will get loved and ridden which is with a longtime friend in California. Enjoy your “new” bike, Chris! #chapmancycles
Refinished my old bike from green to another graye Refinished my old bike from green to another grayer green before it goes off to its new home. Brakes are cleaned and re-polished for the first time in 3 years. Good as new! I added an old clip of how the brakes work at the end. Enjoy! #weirdbrakewednesday #filletbrazed #chapmancycles
I’m in the middle of a repaint on a 90s Paramoun I’m in the middle of a repaint on a 90s Paramount. The water bottle boss was oddly 64mm too low on the down tube which functionally is mostly fine but visually was unbalanced. I filled the old lower boss and brazed in a new one higher on the tube. Primed and ready for basecoats now. #silverbrazing #chapmancycles

Some more detail shots of Erik’s brick red metallic bike. The paint really comes to life in the sunlight! Again, thanks to Erik and @brad.quartuccio for the photos! #lugs #lugsnotdrugs #chapmancycles
The final bike from this @phillybikeexpo series is The final bike from this @phillybikeexpo series is Erik’s brick red metallic 650b fendered road bike. This one was built around a heavily carved set of Prugnat lugs similar to two other bikes I have shown in Philly in previous years. Erik had this one completely planned out from the start. He provided all the parts which made the final stretch to the Expo go just a little quicker! I wasn’t able to take photos before the Expo because of weather and time constraints but thanks to Erik and @brad.quartuccio for the photos! More detail photos of this one coming up tomorrow. #lugs #lugsnotdrugs #chapmancycles
